How Is The Laying Flock Raised?

The laying hens and always a few roosters arrive at the farm when they are 1-2 days old. For the first 2 weeks, the young chicks are given extra heat and kept indoors until they are hardy enough to venture out. After a couple weeks, the chicks begin their long and happy life of grazing and scratching. Our flock of layers roam freely except for a perimeter fence to protect them from predators. They are provided ample space to forage, run, roost, crow, and lay eggs. During the day, the chickens happily graze and scratch and in the evening they return to shelter to roost for the night. These happy hens produce eggs that are incredibly delicious and extremely healthy. Chickens like to graze – they NEED to graze - and it’s their diet of plants and insects that creates perfect eggs high in omega 3’s, Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, and beta-carotene – exactly what we’re supposed to eat. But remember, these important nutrients are in the yolk so eat the whole egg!

Like all other animals on the farm, the laying hens receive no antibiotics, growth hormones, vaccinations or any medications whatsoever during their lifetime.

What Are The Laying Hens Fed?

The laying hens are fed a certified organic grain ration. But most importantly, they also forage and graze for insects and plants throughout the day. They are constantly at work finding every weed seed, every small insect or worm along the ground. Their powerful legs can scratch up any newly planted seedling to reveal the worms and insects hiding below. This diverse but natural diet produces eggs are customers repeatedly say they cannot find in any store.
